This isn't my favorite flannel board I've ever done. I think I still need to play around with the rhyme; I liked the idea of a simple and visual representation of the life cycle of a caterpillar/butterfly but I just feel so apathetic about the end result.
And it goes like this:
First comes a butterfly and lays an egg
And out comes a caterpillar with oh so many legs
See the caterpillar spin and spin,
A little cocoon to sleep in.
Now we wait and see, shhhh
We wait and see
When out of the cocoon, my oh my
there comes a pretty butterfly!
I know it gets a little confusing with all the pictures so here's the rhyme in its entirety:
First comes a butterfly and lays an egg,
And out comes a caterpillar with oh so many legs,
See the caterpillar spin and spin,
A little cocoon to sleep in.
Now we wait and see, shhh
We wait and see
When out of the cocoon,my oh my
there comes a pretty butterfly.
What do you think, oh Great Brain? Does anyone have a killer butterfly rhyme?
I like this idea, too! But when I was reading the rhyme, one thing that came to mind is that the sentence "A little cocoon to sleep in" didn't seem to work. When I read it a second time, my mind went to "A little cocoon to fall asleep in." Not sure if that is any better or if that is what you are looking for...
ReplyDeleteI love your pieces ~ especially the little caterpillar. :-)
Thank you! The beat works a lot better with your line.
DeleteAnd the caterpillar is my favorite piece too, he's loosely based of The Very Hungry Caterpillar which was laying on my desk as I was making the set.
I would change the second line to "And out comes a caterpillar with lots of legs". This would make a great action rhyme, too. My kids love to roll their arms (spinning), and to pop up from sitting (out of the cocoon).
ReplyDeleteOooooh, I didn't even think of using it as an action rhyme. That will make it so much better the next time I try it. Thank you!
DeleteI used this flannel board idea for my story time last Sunday. It was a hit!! Thank you!
