Theme Thursday: There Be Dragons

A large stuffed dragon sits on top of our bookshelves and watches story time every week. I figured it was time for a small tribute to her...

And all of her baby dragons came back.

Make and Take Craft: Fire Breathers

True Talk Time? This was not a good craft. I was so freaking excited about it after finding it on pinterest, but absolutely nothing about it was worth the prep time. Maybe if you did it with older kids-4 years and up- but while playing with the glue, pom poms and tissue paper was fun for everyone the end result fell short.

Supplies:
-paper cups
-pom-poms
-glue
-tissue paper strips
-Popsicle sticks

Process: The night before I cut half of the bottom out of each cup and glued a popsicle stick to the remaining base. I tried to cover each cup in green construction paper to give it a more dragon-y apperance but gave up on that pretty quickly. If it's important to you, and a couple caregivers did remark on it, make sure you use green cups.

We met over at the craft table after the Turn Around song and I helped show the caregivers where to glue the tissue paper strips and the kids played with pom poms. This really was more of a caregiver craft but the kids did enjoy playing with the finished product.

In the future I'm going to back off of crafts for crafts sake and focus more on ones that complement the program and the kids' abilities.

Time: Prep took about 40 minutes once I abandoned trying to make the cups green and the craft took about 20 minutes.
